Griffin Valuation Group, Ltd. is comprised of tax accounting, valuation and cost engineering experts dedicated to the construction cost segregation, and the commercial and industrial property tax and valuation fields.   We are based just outside of Chicago with tax and valuation professionals located throughout the country.  We provide tax savings to corporations and property owners nationwide.

Executive Profiles

 

Barbara J. Wiggins

 

Barbara Wiggins is the Founder and a Principal of Griffin Valuation Group, a company she formed in order to provide businesses with a more cost effective means to tax reductions.  She has 24 years of cost segregation, property valuation, engineering and construction experience. 

Barb's extensive background includes 14 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Chicago where she co-developed, managed and trained the cost segregation and property tax practice.  Her cost segregation studies and property tax analyses resulted in significant savings for Fortune 500 clients throughout the United States.

Barb has performed cost segregation studies and achieved substantial property tax reductions for very large corporations including:  national chain restaurants and retail stores, several of the nation's largest financial institutions, public utilities,  hotels and resorts, casinos, refineries, pharmaceuticals, light and heavy manufacturing, food processing, and many other ventures.

In addition to her cost segregation expertise, Barb has valued both real and personal property throughout the country and won substantial property tax reductions through negotiations and testimony in state and local hearings as an expert witness.  Alone, and in conjunction with major law firms, she has been instrumental in achieving millions of dollars in tax reductions for numerous Fortune 500 clients. 

Prior to her tenure at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Barb was an Engineer at Sargent & Lundy Engineers in Chicago, specializing in cost engineering, design and construction project scheduling for the international power industry.  Her work on both new and retrofit electric utility projects included ventures in Turkey, Indonesia, Vietnam, and China as well as throughout the United States.

Preceding Sargent & Lundy, Barb was an Engineer at Envirodyne Engineers in Chicago where she was a construction manager specializing in cost engineering for the expansions of both the DuPage Airport and O’Hare International Airport.  Also at Envirodyne, her expertise in cost engineering was utilized during the renovation of the city of Chicago’s elevated rail track system. 

Barb is a graduate of Purdue University with both an Associate of Applied Science and a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction.  She has continued her education through such organizations as the American Society of Appraisers, the International Association of Assessing Officers and the Institute for Professionals in Taxation. 

Barb recently completed a one year appointment as a State Administrative Law Judge to hear property tax cases and also continues in her third term on the Property Tax Appeals Board in her home county.

Barb is a member of the Society of Women Engineers, the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering International, the National Association of Tax Professionals, Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals, the Women's Leadership Exchange, National Association of Women Business Owners, PricewaterhouseCoopers Alumni Association, Purdue University Lifetime Alumni Association, Chamber of Commerce, and the National Association for Female Executives.  Barb is listed as a lifetime VIP in Who's Who of Global Industry Leaders, and she was formerly awarded the Senior Member designation in the American Society of Appraisers.

Barbara J. Ericks, CPA

 

Barbara Ericks is a Principal of Griffin Valuation Group, Ltd.  She is a certified public accountant and is licensed in the State of Arizona.

Before joining Griffin Valuation Group, Ltd., Barbara was with a large national public accounting firm and specialized in cost segregation studies, accounting method changes and purchase price allocations.  

Barbara has performed studies for a wide variety of clients including national chain restaurants and retail stores, hotels, medical and surgical facilities, thoroughbred race tracks, mortuaries, manufacturing, warehousing, commercial and apartment complexes.

She has completed significant tax compliance work including multi-state single entity and consolidated returns as well as returns for trusts and pass-through entities.  Special issues tackled include Section 754 elections, Section 1031 exchanges and changes in accounting methods.

Barbara was also with the Big-4 accounting firm of Ernst & Young LLP.

Barbara holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia College and a Master of Accounting degree from the University of Arizona.  She is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Arizona Society of Certified Public Accountants.
